Terry Edwards – Artistic Director

Terry studied classical piano from a young age and went on to complete the ARCT Performer’s Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto, Bachelor’s Degrees in Music, French and German from the University of Regina, and a Master’s Degree in Music Performance from McGill University, Montreal, where he studied with master pianist and accompanist Charles Reiner.

 

After returning to Western Canada Terry completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Education at the University of Regina.  He has taught high school and elementary school and has also been an educational consultant for the Fine Arts.  He now teaches French and directs a large high school choral music program in the Calgary Catholic School District.  In 2010 he received the CCSD Shepherd Leadership Award—a peer-nominated recognition of dedication to students and teachers. 

 

Terry has studied orchestral conducting at the U of C Wind Conducting Symposium, at the SSMA in Siena, Italy, and at the Canford Summer School of Music in Sherborne, England, as well as choral conducting at the Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, at the Sarteano Chamber Choral Conducting Workshop in Italy, at the National Conductor’s Symposium in Vancouver, and at the Norwegian Choir Association’s Summer School Master Class for Conductors.  Some of his mentors have included Heather Buchanan, Mark Hopkins, Craig Kirchoff, Rudolfo Saglimbeni, Denise Ham, George Hurst, Simon Carrington, Jon Washburn and Dale Warland. 

 

Terry has been a répétiteur of the CPO Chorus and Cantaré Children’s Choir.  He is former Assistant Conductor of Spiritus Chamber Choir, and former Artistic Director of Voix des Rocheuses, CCSD Teacher’s Choir and CCSD Arabesque Women’s Choir.  This is his third season as Artistic Director of the Calgary Bach Festival Society.
