Terry Edwards – Biography

Born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, Terry studied classical piano from a young age and went on to complete the Performer's A.R.C.T. Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto, Bachelor's Degrees in Music Performance and French and German from the University of Regina, and a Master's Degree in Music Performance from McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, where he studied with pianist Charles Reiner.

 

Terry returned to Western Canada, completed a Bachelor's Degree in Education, and taught high school music in Regina as well as elementary school in Calgary.  He is now Consultant for the Fine Arts, K-12, for the Calgary Catholic School District, for whom, among other duties, he directs two teacher choirs. 

 

A former Assistant Conductor of Spiritus Chamber Choir of Calgary; Terry has directed school and community choirs of all ages, and has also studied orchestral conducting at the 2004 U of C Wind Conducting Symposium, in the 2005 SSMA program in Siena, Italy, and at the 2006 Canford Summer School of Music in England, as well as choral conducting at the Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, at the 2007 Sarteano Chamber Choral Conducting Workshop in Italy, at the 2008 National Conductor's Symposium in Vancouver, and most recently at the 2008 Norwegian Choir Association's Summer School Master-class for Conductors.  Some of his conducting mentors have included Heather Buchanan, Simon Carrington, Mark Hopkins, George Hurst, Craig Kirchoff, Rudolfo Saglimbeni, Dale Warland and Jon Washburn.
